One day, late last summer, I asked my husband if he would benefit from having a business card. From previous posts, you may have remembered that he is in the U.S. Navy. After he agreed that it may be something worth doing, he also told me he didn't want it associated with any particular group or organization. While a curious thing to say (he isn't affiliated with any groups or organizations that I know of, aside from the aforementioned) I took it to heart and made it as mysteriously informative as I could. It lists his full name, phone number, personal email address, and Facebook URL. The design was meant to hint at his day job without associating him with any of those iwishtoremainanonymous affiliations. Since he is an Engineman - the gears were appropriate. Above all, the design needed to be simple, easy to read & understand, and visually memorable.
Sidenote: After I had these printed (with a gloss coating on the front, and a matte finish on the back) and had given them to my husband, his initial response was one of confused disappointment. He liked the design, but didn't understand why his job title/government email address/Navy Stuff (it's a technical term) wasn't included. [insert facepalm].

I'm having an affair....with Sharpie Markers.
One of my favorite instant-gratification projects is using Sharpie Markers to draw on canvas. The downside to this is that it seems to ruin the marker [insert head scratch here]. The designs are basic, sometimes just silhouettes. They fill up a wall quickly and a huge plus side is that I can just spray paint over them and start over if I get bored with the artwork. So, my suggestions to you, fellow Sharpie/canvas hoarders, is to pick simple but strong silhouette images (like the wind turbine) or organic shapes (the octopus) and have at it. BTW, has anyone out there used Sharpie Stained products? I might have to make make some hot Keds or Chucks for the summer months or something...

Sunday Swag: Like a Chief
Sundays are a day of R & R in the Wittkamper household. In observance of this, Sundays will be reserved for posting works of art or creative projects without drawn-out tutorials attached. These are strictly for enjoyment - some of which, I hope you will have.
If any of you are fans of the U.S. Navy in general, or if you have the honor of being associated with any U.S. Navy Chiefs specifically (Hooyah!), then I hope you enjoy this piece of art. As the spouse of an ENC, I can say that the meaning/symbolism/enormousamountofstuff (it's a technical term) going on in this drawing represents an experience that may otherwise be indescribable (and that is only from a spouse's perspective)!
